Call on novel technologies, solutions and systems to reduce GHG emissions of animal production systems open

The ERA-NETs FACCE ERA-GAS (on monitoring and mitigation of greenhouse gases from agri- and silviculture), SusAn (on sustainable animal production) and ICT-AGRI 2 (on ICT and robotics for sustainable agriculture) have launched a joint call for transnational collaborative research projects on "Novel technologies, solutions and systems to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of animal production systems" on 8 October 2018. The call will be funded by at least 16 countries, including The Netherlands.

The scientific scope of the call addresses collaborative projects in the three research themes:
Theme 1, the “holistic theme”: Agroecological approach to whole animal production systems
Theme 2, the “technical theme”: Technical options for the monitoring and mitigation of GHG emissions from animal production systems
Theme 3, the “societal theme”: Social and/or economic approach to livestock production and consumption of animal products

Preceding the launch of the joint call, the three ERA-NETS organised two joint workshops. The first one, held on 29-30 November 2017, focused on the comparison of animal production systems with respect to GHGs and helped to set research priorities for future joint calls. The second workshop, which took place on 20-21 February 2018, discussed promising strategies and innovations to reduce GHG emissions from key source categories in livestock production, identified priority topics for the 2018 joint call and discussed potential funding instruments and available national resources.

The call will follow a one-step procedure. The closing date for full proposals is 3 December 2018.

Update 7 November 2018: An updated Call Announcement has been published, taking into account a new Funding Partner in the ERA-GAS 2018 Joint Call, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Update November 2018: The closing date for full proposals is extended until 31 January 2019.
