Legacy and future of SUSFOOD

For the Status Seminar on 13 October 2015 of SUSFOOD (SUStainable FOOD production and consumption, a former FP7-ERA-NET), researchers, project managers and policy makers gathered in Brussels. The main objectives of this seminar were providing an overview and updates of the outcomes of the FP7 SUSFOOD ERA-NET, and getting prepared for the future as ERA-NET Cofund under Horizon 2020.

Enforcing collaboration and alignment with other food-related initiatives of the European Research Area will be a great future task for SUSFOOD. In line with this, two Joint programming initiatives and one ERA-NET followed the invitation. Heather McKahnn (INRA, FR, FACCE secretariat) presented JPI “Agriculture, Food security and Climate Change”. The scope and activities of JPI “Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life” were shown by Bruce McCallum (NZ, HDHL steering Committee). Elena Capolino (MIPAAF, IT, CORE Organic Governing Board) gave an overview of the ERA-Net+ “CORE Organic”.

The objectives and the first outcomes of twelve (out of 15) ongoing SUSFOOD research projects of the two Calls of 2013 and 2014 were presented by the project coordinators and researchers. They also shared their views regarding challenges for sustainable food production in the future.
