JPI MYBL: European and international collaboration is more necessary than ever
In a statement in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Joint Programming Initiative on demographics (JPI MYBL - ‘More Years, Better Lives’) calls for intensifying European and international collaboration. “We need scientific evidence to inform policy. The great diversity of responses to the pandemic across Europe demonstrates the importance of adequate data and scientific knowledge to inform policy.” In the statement, they also address the issues of demographic change and the ageing population: “While many older people can enjoy a long and healthy life, we have been reminded of the fact that older people are also more vulnerable to disease and illness”.
In addition to the ongoing efforts of the JPI, they foresee for the longer term a “massive scientific task to analyse the effect of the pandemic on health and well-being of populations, with focus on social and demographic conditions”.
